PTCNY member Robin Halpern is not just our Assistant Director, but also an accomplished artist.

In my current series entitled, Altered States, canvases are layered with paint and various types of paper which typifies most of my work. And amidst the paint and paper are also images of multicultural floor-coverings that have been collected over the years in anticipation of this moment. These images have been embedded into many of these paintings as the point of convergence.

I invite you to try on the lens of the “beginners mind”, where you notice your preconceived ideas and then let them go. Here’s an opportunity to allow your mind to wander while letting go of the search for certainty.

As an artist and psychotherapist, I hope that this experience of viewing art will not only give you alternate ways of making meaning but will inspire you to use your imagination to be entertained, beguiled and possibly transformed.
