The workshop described here is centered on the assessment and clinical work with LGBTQ children, teens and young adults and will be given in a beautiful area of Park Slope Brooklyn – very convenient to get to from Manhattan.

I am also very happy to report that my co-leader, Susan Caputo, is soon to be a member of PTCNY.

We will review and elaborate on the terms pertaining to the LGBTQIA community. We will discuss treatment approaches, highlighting play therapy, in addition to individual, group, and family therapy. We will discuss the process of assessing gender development in various age groups. We will focus on how to help parents and families provide support that is vital to the outcome of the development and optimal adjustment of children who identify as LGBTQIA.

Participants will be able to:
✥ Discuss ways that a therapist can recognize specific themes in children’s play, and how to use them to help parents and families understand and encourage child/adolescent exploration about gender and sexual identity

✥ Speak about ways to engage in conversation with LGBTQIA youth when sensitive issues come up.

✥ Describe specific issues and goals for working with children, adolescents and parents around issues of LGBTQIA.

✥ Explain different ways to incorporate parents and family in treatment of children 10 and younger, and with those 11 and older, around issues related to gender and sexuality
