Since each member of the PTCNY is an independent practitioner, the services offered through the collective are far-reaching and multifaceted. We provide services for individuals, couples, families and organizations, as well as professional development opportunities for other mental health practitioners.
Clients contact us for many reasons. Sometimes they want to learn more about psychotherapy services in general. In other cases, they have a particular problem, issue or concern and wish to explore treatment options. Still others already know what services they desire and can turn to our website to find a qualified practitioner. In some instances, depending on the personís need, we will reach beyond our collective to enlist the help of other highly qualified specialists.
Individual psychotherapy is a form of healthcare treatment and involves confidential meetings between you and your therapist. The PTCNY alliance includes professionals who offer individual therapy for adults, adolescents and children who face a wide variety of life challenges.
Areas of expertise specific to children and adolescents include developmental, behavioral and mood issues. Such issues may manifest themselves in inter-familial, peer, educational or vocational areas.
For adults, the pressures of everyday life can cause a wide array of life challenges. Depression, anxiety, stress and relationship issues are common to the human condition, and our experts are highly skilled at helping people overcome problems that can sometimes seem insurmountable.

Frequently, couples face difficulties that require professional help. It may serve their interests to receive joint counseling to address problems that arise in the course of the relationship. Therapy can improve communication and teach couples to deal with these problems in new and constructive ways. Our collective includes many highly skilled and experienced therapists who specialize in this particular area of need.
Often the problems that individuals face are linked with others in their immediate or extended families. In such instances, the dynamics of interaction and painful feelings are complex and may best be addressed in family therapy. Such treatment can only be conducted by those highly specialized in this particular area. We are pleased to provide such highly skilled family therapists.
Group therapy brings together a diverse group of individuals who share common concerns or complementary problems. People within the group benefit from this kind of therapy by sharing with and learning from other members. The supportive atmosphere promotes individual growth through interpersonal dynamics. Therapy groups can be time limited and problem focused or more general and open ended, and require practitioners that are highly experienced and trained in this form of treatment.
These services take place at the practitionerís office. But we also provide on-site counseling at a business or organization where employees and management need guidance and support through difficult times, such as a disaster or workforce reduction.
The breadth and depth of our membersí experience reaches beyond traditional individual and group therapy to meet the needs of larger entities Ė whether a business, organization or community. As a matter of fact, many of our colleagues performed extraordinary work during and after the 9/11 attacks.
We have experts in employee assistance programs, corporate counseling and development, and critical incidence debriefing. Our members are also skilled at leading and facilitating interactive seminars with executive management and employees to enhance relationships and morale.
PTCNY can also match your organization with skilled executive coaches. This service helps leaders increase their contributions to the organization and improve relationships with employees.
As practitioners and scholars, PTCNY members are eager to share theoretical advances and practice methods. Such informal, as well as formal, communications are highly encouraged and support our guiding mission.
Many of our members are also teachers, trainers, researchers, writers and public speakers. All have an eye on continuing education and new developments in the field of psychotherapy.
While no organization, however skilled and experienced its membership, can meet all needs, the PTCNY is committed to serving as the fulcrum of a network where other professionals can find support and enrichment by sharing ideas and methods. Peer collaboration fuels our common goal of advancing both the mental health profession and our individual professional growth.
