I also assist my patients with current life transitions, relationship difficulties, and work or academic problems. In addition, I specialize in the impact of past and current interpersonal trauma and early attachment difficulties on parenting capacities, and assist my clients when these experiences interfere with being loving and supportive parents in the present.

Personal Statement

I am a licensed clinical social worker with 12 years of experience, providing individual psychotherapy for late teens and adults of all ages. I maintain a private practice in Midtown and also see patients at the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy. In the past I have worked in psychiatry and was formerly an organizational psychologist, and my clients have come from very diverse backgrounds with a broad variety of needs. To help my clients with the diverse concerns and problems they bring to therapy, my work reflects attachment, trauma, and psychodynamic perspectives. I honor their conscious thoughts, perspectives, and ideas about their presenting issues and also explore feelings, symptoms, and body sensations that are less conscious, but may be clues to these problems. I have deep empathy for the people I work with and strongly believe that helping to reduce distress and exploring its underlying causes are each vital aspects of therapy. My clients often state that they appreciate my interactive style, and my use of questioning, exploration, reflection, humanity, and humor. They also recognize that I allow for quiet space and reflection to deepen our work. I keep a very open mind in my sessions, and I will ask that you do the same and use the unique therapy space to explore your feelings, thoughts and behaviors from another perspective.

As your therapist, first and foremost I will respect the courage of your decision to seek therapy and create a foundation of safety, acceptance, and collaboration from which this kind of exploration can take place. Ultimately, I will strive to help you access your own unique strengths and resources, which can become obscured in times of prolonged stress or during an acute challenge. I look forward to hearing from you - feel free to call or email me. I do not charge for the initial consultation.
