Personal Statement

I am a licensed clinical social worker with 18 years of experience, providing individual psychotherapy for late teens and adults of all ages. My clients come from very diverse backgrounds with a broad variety of needs. To help them with the diverse concerns and challenges they bring to therapy, my work reflects attachment, trauma, and psychodynamic perspectives. I honor my clients' conscious thoughts, perspectives, and ideas about their presenting issues, and also explore feelings, implicit memories, and body sensations that are less conscious, but may be clues to these problems. I have deep empathy for the people I work with and strongly believe that helping to reduce distress and exploring its underlying causes are each vital aspects of therapy. My clients often state that they appreciate my interactive style, and my use of questioning, exploration, reflection, humanity, and humor. They also recognize that I allow for quiet space and reflection to deepen our work. I keep a very open mind in my sessions, and I will ask that you do the same and use the unique therapy space to explore your feelings, thoughts and behaviors from another perspective. I maintain a private practice in the Lincoln Center area and also supervise and teach at the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy. In the past I have worked in psychiatry and was formerly an organizational psychologist, at Columbia University and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
