Personal Statement

I am a licensed clinical social worker with 30 years of experience helping people with a wide range of difficulties. I have also served on the faculty of the NYU School of Social Work as well as Columbia School of Social Work. I have advanced training in psychodynamic psychotherapy. I have offices in Park Slope, Brooklyn and in the Union Square area in Manhattan.

I believe psychotherapy can offer a client the opportunity to explore difficult internal experiences, relationships or life transitions in a safe, supportive environment that encourages productive change. That opportunity is based on a collaborative relationship between client and therapist. It is this relationship that is central to the change process. To facillitate the change that clients hope for, a warm, empathic and open therapist is important.

Individuals and couples who are struggling to find their way in their role as parents have found their work with me particularly helpful in negotiating this difficult life change. I have experience in helping people with other moments of transition, such as loss of a relationship or a job.

I have worked extensively with young adults who are negotiating the transition to adulthood and have also worked with parents to help them navigate their relationships with their young adult children. In addition, individuals and couples who are struggling to find their way in their role as new parents or as parents of adolescents have found their work with me particularly helpful. I have experience in helping people with other moments of transition, such as loss of a relationship or a job.
