I begin each therapy by trying to understand where the client is and what he or she is needing help with. My thinking is informed by over 20 years of experience in individual, family and couplesí therapy. I work collaboratively with the client and welcome feedback as to what is and isnít helping in the therapy process. Together we look at present relationships to see patterns of conflicts, as well as family history. Specialties of mine over the years have included new mothers, parenting, bereavement, and working with the newly divorced. More recently, as I have been working more with eating disorders and other addictions, my approach is to integrate various modalities like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness and Psychodynamic Psychotherapy. In the past year I have given talks on Gaming Addiction and Harm Reduction, a compelling alternative to abstinence based addiction treatment.
I am currently starting two groups, one for women with eating and body image issues, the second for the newly divorced. I provide a free consultation for each of these groups, to determine if the group is right for the person. I also am a teacher and supervisor at the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy.
